Car Review, Figures and Specs for the Lamborghini Countach LP5000S QV - [1985]

1974 - 1990 Lamborghini Countach

Think Supercar - Think Countach

The Lamborghini Countach is the archetypal supercar. Penned by Marcello Gandini in the early nineteen seventies, the Countach changed slightly over the years. Most significantly was the increase in engine capacity from 4 litre V12 of the LP400 to the 5.2 litre Quatrovalvole as featured in the statistics above. However, the distinctive shape remained throughout with a rear bumper and rear spoiler appearing in various guises along the way.

Flawed but who cares?

Whilst a perfect example of what a supercar should look like, (for most people at least) after raising the gull wing doors the Countach experience from inside is just as eventful as the exterior. A contortion to get seated, the driving position is offset somewhat and visibility particularly to the rear is notably obscure but who cares?

V12 Muscle

A supercar is not just about the look, to complete the package it's got to be quick and sound amazing. Early 4 litre versions were not exactly quick but the brash italian got quicker as time went by. Depending upon where you look, 0-60mph statistics range from 5.6 secs to 4.5 secs. As for the sound - have a browse on You Tube - the V12 from the outside of the car is spine tingling. Although complaints about the racket from the inside from test drivers could hint at this noise becoming tiresome on longer blasts down the autobahn.

Big Personality and Wide Wheels

The LP400S version boasted even wider tyres than previous which completed the rear aspect of the artistic masterpiece perfectly. As a consequence the handling and grip were improved, further distancing itself from its predecessor the twitchy Miura.

Summary

Positive  Where do we start? Looks, sound, the archetypal supercar that everyone secretly wants to drive.

Negatives  Relatively slow, offset cockpit, difficult to get in if you have arthritis.
